Weather Is Changable

Uploaded: August 07, 2011

Description

The Rockies @ Bow Lake
BANFF NATIONAL PARK
Canada, Alberta.

Taken July 29th, 2011

Ground Level Here Is About 4,000 Feet In This Area...
***SO THE WEATHER CAN CHANGE MIGHTY FAST!***

A few minutes after I shot this, the wind picked up pretty badly and the rain came down cold and sideways.

You might see the wind in a few of the trees and bushes here? (West to East).

Burrr! It got Cold!
(I love it in the Rockies no matter what the weather, however! A person feels so alive there!)

It's hard to imagine feeling down in the dumps in those surroundings. Do you have a reindeer parka and leggings? #9588264

Hi Ladies!

MICHELLE ARE YOU PSYCHIC??? Lol...

*Actually* the reason I ask you is (BRACE YOURSELF) there is a building on this property. BEHIND where I stood there....Guess what they sell inside the gift shop??? (and I KID YOU NOT!) Raindeer skins. BIG ONES. $199.00 and I am NOT NOT NOT kidding. I made the party we were traveling with go inside of there and feel how soft the fur was. THEN when we got outside of there I said "You know, if California or New Yorkers Ever Saw Those there, they might throw PAINT on them!" (War against the death of animals for fur)...The shop was owned and run by Native North Americans however and they have looser laws about this. I bet if a U.S.A. person bought one it would get taken at customs however!!!

Thanks for commenting.

I always think of reindeer skins when I think of REALLY COLD temperatures. Read a book about Siberia about ten years ago. People WORKED outdoors at
-50F, and all they needed was to be covered in reindeer skins from head to foot...and drink plenty of vodka! Not for me, to be sure! What happens when you need to get rid of your vodka? #9588318

I don't know but I have connections to Santa and I can ask him...Gee. I hope -HE- never hits the bottle?! HeeHee...I have heard rumors...

WOW! What a climate you live in Laura! Cold one moment, and freezing the next!
This is a beautiful mountain mood scene of this picturesque lake, you have presented it very well!

Sydney has just set a new winter record for the warmest 10 consecutive days in winter, the temp exceded 20ºC/69ºF each day! That is the warmest period since they started keeping records 150 years ago! #9588364

What a magnificent view Laura!! Wonderful capture and I enjoyed the extras too!! We sure could use a Canada Air Mass right now in Big-D!! #9588367

Laura E. Swan level-classic August 07, 2011

Hi John. One thing we can count on here. We -can't- count on the weather! Lol...

We do get days in the 30's c, too. Just not too many. It has been a beautiful summer filled with temps in the 70's and low 80's f. Glad you are having a mild winter, if you are!!! :D

*

Thanks Jeff. I'll send you some nice cool Canadian Rockies air as soon as I can. Maybe after Supper. Okay? Might take a while to get there...?

A lot of mystery feel in this beautiful image, SSSCWLala. We MUST come back to visit this lake.
I was smiling at the tilting trees. In Denmark you can always tell the direction - just look at the trees! They always tilt to the east. Not all trees of course, but close to the west coast you'll never lose direction :)
Your close contact with this awesome bird must have been exciting. And you know what? I always get so excited when I meet wildlife that my hands are shaking and I forget everything I've ever learned about photography. HAHA! #9590203

Yes, SSSKiki. You are so right. Fog is so intriguing to me. Like Steve, I like the mood felt at the lake, too. Crisp and elimental!!! I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and am VERY USED TO FOG so I miss it. Not much in Calgary!!! When I am around it I am AT HOME. (With a jacket on, too! Lol!) I can't wait to see Denmark one day. :D Will you show me all the bent over little trees? (I am an easy tourist to please! HeeHee!)

P.S. I am the same way around the animals. Indeed we are SSSisters!

*

Hi Steve! Why Yes. I can.

Come on Elsie. Turn for Steve, Sweetie.

This summer the weather has just been crazy in both our provinces. The mountains provide beauty no matter what the weather holds. You sure have quite the adventure as you capture these gorgeous vistas. our stories are so much fun to read. #9592162

Hi Heather! You are in for a treat next week. We changed our camping dates. I'd love to meet you to PASS THE BATON as you drive through but I know this gets tricky when you have a sked to keep. Send me a BP mail with more details and we can try and work something out. :)

Hi Wm! Thanks lots! :) !!

How'd I miss this moody-beautiful shot till now? Pom, the scenery's SO pretty, but it looks pretty gosh-darn COLD Out There!!! In The Wild!!! (Not counting the Gift Shop.)
But, as you say, the weather can change quickly... so when I win that lottery and come to visit you, I'll bring snow boots AND a bikini. Maybe if there's a particularly unique weather condition, I can wear them together...
I found your photo when I was looking at your camera link. The link alternates your photos with those of a lady named Josie, who has a delightful gallery, but very few comments on her photos. Check it out, especially the floral shots. She deserves attention!

I paid her a visit!!! Great idea! :) !!! She does have some great work. These canon flat point and shoots are terrific and easy to use.

NOW ABOUT THIS BIKIKI IDEA OF YOURS...Now instead of picturing you in sunny California in jean shorts day and night I see you in a bikini and furry boots! HA! Very 60's, Mare! Very 60's!

Smiling here! Pommy

P.S. Thank you for always having a loving spirit towards every one. :) It's delighful and so much appreciated in this life. We are all very lucky to know you. :) !!! xo #9638740

My typing gets more and more interesting as the years unfold.

BIKIKI??? HA!

Sorry about that! #9638746

Mary K. Robison August 29, 2011

Kiki might want to have you clarify that Bi word, Pommers... :-P
I wear denim shorts for gardening on a cool day, Pom. But this weekend has turned into a true August sizzler/sauna, with high temps AND high humidity! (Aarrgh!) So I'm in the thinnest house shift available. In fact, it's 6:00 AM, and I just turned the fan back on!! Wheeeee!
