Description

I felt sorry for the birds during this heat and drought so converted my "working" wagon to a "bird bath". In this photo the ambient air is 107.5 in the shade. Wondering why the Grackles didn't get into the water, I checked the temperature ... 103. I must remember to move it into the shade today.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor report, 91 percent of the Lone Star State is suffering from either extreme or exceptional drought conditions. Last month was the driest June on record, and the October to June period, the driest continuous nine months on record. We've just experienced the hottest July on record, 51 days with triple digit termperatures - 34 of those consecutively. The economic repercussions of these conditions are being felt across the agriculture industry — the decimated corn crop and culling of cattle being prime examples.

It's BRUTAL, Jim! Oklahoma is feeling your pain! Nice of you to help out the birds. Take care and stay cool. #1398147

Heard a farmer say this morning that he had his corn inspected by an expert (what ever that is) he said that right now he might get two bushels to the acre. It cost any where from $200 to $250 an acre to plant. Hard times in Missouri right now. I told my son not to sell any of his hay. He will be feeding it before he knows it. #9579249

Talked to my brother who lives in Oklahoma last night...his ponds are dry and pastures are dried up. He is having to feed hay already and is hauling water to livestock. I would give anything if I could send some of this Kentucky rain out to you all. It's raining right now....anyway Jim, I love this image and hope you get rain and cooler temps very soon. #9579395
