Description

The Erechtheum (/ˌerekˈθiːəm/) or Erechtheion (Greek: Ἐρέχθειον) is an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece. The temple as seen today was built between 421 and 406 BC. On the south side, is the famous "Porch of the Maidens", with six draped female figures (caryatids) as supporting columns, each sculpted in a manner different from the rest and engineered in such a way that their slenderest part, the neck, is capable of supporting the weight of the porch roof while remaining graceful and feminine. ~ Wikepedia

I so love and enjoy seeing different parts of the world though the lens of fellow BPers. One of the many things that makes this sight so wonderful. These old ruins have sucha beautiful look to them, the history of what once was is always so captivating. Love the colors and textures, the stonework, thanks so much for the history of it, especially love the maidens. Beautiful work in everyway my friend.
Have a great day. #9535583

What a great image to photograph. I like the way the foreground stones lead the eye further to the temple. The openness of the sky trough the temple is very beautiful. Imagine how brilliant the engineers of the past were. #9536411
