Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson
Uploaded: June 26, 2011
It was during the Battle of Bull Run in the Civil War when Jackson assumed his nickname. after the battle they found him standing and General Robert E Lee said "There stands Jackson like a stone wall." that is how he got the nickname stonewall.
After the most complete preparations general Hooker advanced against Lee at Chancellorsville, who countervailed all the Federal general's plans by sending Jackson to find and crush his right flank, which movement was in the process of brilliant accomplishment when Jackson, who had passed his own lines to make a personal inspection of the situation, was fired upon and fatally wounded by a line of Confederates who unhappily mistook him and his escort for the enemy. The glory of the achievement which Lee and Jackson planned, fell upon General Stuart next day, who, succeeding Jackson in command, ordered that charge which became so ruinous to Hooker, with the thrilling watchword, "Remember Jackson."

Very good composition and POV Rita. The story really adds to the appeal of this image. Would suggest opening up the shadows a bit but otherwise it is good to go. #1388513Teresa H. Hunt June 27, 2011
Great image Rita. I love the low POV. :) #9489943Leslie D. Regal June 27, 2011
Great perspective on both the man and the horse. They look monumental, as they should! #9490135Anthony L. Mancuso June 27, 2011
Interesting POV Rita, and I like how the lines of the horses neck and mane lead to "Stonewall"'s face. I was thinking of suggesting a tighter crop, but the version I was considering would mean losing the sword, and I think it anchors the shot and would be better left in. #9490567Jeff E Jensen June 27, 2011
Very cool, Rita. I love your perspective. Thanks for the story as well. #9490589Beth Spencer June 27, 2011
I like the perspective you shot from. The story was great, thanks for sharing it with us.Rita K. Connell June 28, 2011
Thank you so much this was not an easy perspective to get, because he was above me and it was one o'clock in the after noon. lighting was hard!for you Dale I open the shadow and I have added a couple of other shots I took I love the guardians on the bottom this memorial.
for this month challenge I went a head and added this couple getting married while we were standing their taking picture. I ended up taking a few group shots of the group that was there with thier cameras for them.

Hi Rita;Debbie E. Payne June 28, 2011
Rita, I like how you opened up the shadows. That was the only thing I could see to critique but now that Carla mentioned it, I think this would be a perfect candidate for a sky replacement. You could even get him totally dark and put him against a sunset.I like your challenge image. I got a few pictures of a real wedding party in Chicago at the Bean and in the background are some random zombies from the Zombie March. We had a great time there. I didn't get around to laying on the ground under the dome at the old Chicago Library like you did, but I grabbed a chair (they were setting up for a wedding reception) and drug it under the dome and stretched back to get the shots. (Knew I could get up from the chair!!) #9492981

thank you Carla its amazing when you go through the southern states there is still a strong Confederates feel thereDebbie: Yes I can see a sky replacement but I don't think it going to happen right now. I can't wait to see some of your zombie march especially the wedding one. now you were much smarter than I, I wish I had look for a chair, oh yea, the dome I took a picture of was at the Culture Art musuem where Vian Maer exhibit was not the Library. I am sure that there are alot of great domes all over Chicago. #9493244

I also like the POV on this one Rita. I think the edit was just right for this shot and do agree that a sky replacement might make it even more dramatic and should be easy to do on this shot.Your others look good too. That is a very interesting and beautiful monument. #9493339

It sure looks like your image, Rita. I know this building used to be the Chicago Library - it isn't that anymore. I'll remove it after you tell me. #9493499Rita K. Connell June 28, 2011

Yep, it is surely different. I would love to go there as well. Maybe next time. I have a feeling Michael may be moving there after this internship. So much to see and do there. Would love to spend more time at the gardens in the fall. #9494569Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
