Description

San Ignatio Lagoon, Mexico. These incredible gray whales come over to the boats to be touched and kissed. They are called "friendlies" because of their interactions with humans. With all of the excitement, it can get tricky sharing the space in the small boat. Thrilling!

Wonderful capture, Karen. I took my son on one of those trips a number of years ago and though we had a breathtaking experience, I was not lucky enough to get a photograph of it. We were the only boat around and there was so much activity, both in and out of our small boat,there was just NO way I could photograph these huge wonderful animals. Sadly, my photos are more at a distance... but I will always have the memory! Thank you for reminding me, Karen. #9424439

Thanks for the nice comments. Jack, the next big vacation will be to see the Spirit Bears in Alaska. Just little ones before that one.
JudyAnn, I totally understand how difficult it is to get photos. Of course mine are mostly of the other boats. And between the movement of the boats and whales, the spray of the water when they blow, the excitment of everyone (mostly myself) and the luck of how close they decide to get, it's a very tricky adventure. According to the others, our group was unusually lucky to have so many whales get so close, so often. We were blessed! #9427160
