Little Blue Heron, non-breeding adult

Uploaded: March 03, 2011

Description

1/1000s @ f/4.0, ISO 200, Nikkor 70-200mm @ 200mm. (Animals)
As distinguished from the breeding adult birds, which have blue-grey plumage with purplish head and neck and dark blue legs and feet, the non-breeding adults have dark blue head and neck plumage and paler legs. The Little Blue Heron stalks its prey methodically in shallow water, often running as it does so. It eats fish, frogs crustaceans, small rodents and insects. They often mingle with Snowy Egrets. Although I was careful to keep a respectable distance, his little fellow was watching me closely.

Exif: F Number: 4, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/1000 seconds, Flash: did not fire., ISO: 200, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 200.00 mm, Model: NIKON D100
