I love the directional light on the lion's head here Rita, I think it creates a lot of drama with the different light and shadowed areas. I am not crazy about the compositional placement of the tall building. I think it would work better if it were more to the left with space between it and the lion. That being said, I think I would blacken either the entire bg, or black out the big building and leave the shorter building in to retain the city atmosphere of the image. #1357736

Love the lighting in this shot! I'm such a fan of night time city shots, but have never taken one. I see what Tony is saying although it wasn't a deal breaker for me. You could always select the tall building and copy paste it to another area. Then clone over it on the lower layer from the surrounding sky. :~)

This photo makes me think of my grandfather. when I was growing up....heck up until the day he died he had a concrete lion about 3 feet tall sitting at the end of the porch. He always said he was going to paint it, but never did. Was always proud of it and would make sure anyone that came over took note of it! Ah thanks for the memories! :~) #9272094

I like the new posts Rita. I prefer the new vertical one because I think the bg banners in the horizontal post draw attention away from the lion and buildings. #9272179

Rita - I love to see your low light images. It is a type of photography I really haven't practiced much, but should now that I have a camera that can handle a lot of noise. I would like to see what the original looks like with the building closest to the lion painted out. Of your others, Iike the vertical one best. #9272588

I like these night-time cityscapes, too. I tried a few, but haven't quite come to terms with all the discordant lighting patterns. I'll be interested to see Tony's suggestion. #9273685

Hi Rita;
These are all really nice night images. I sure like the range of tones and the light.
I see what Tony is referencing here. I initially thought the lion was smoking a big cigar, because of the placement of the roof line.
I'd like to see Tony's suggestions.

It's hard to pick a favorite. Your lighting on all of them is exquiste, Rita...I agree that the tall building in the first one competes with the regal beauty of the lions head, but you've not only fixed that but tried several other options and shown us different POV as well.

I like the original the best but with the BG blur. Beautiful lighting and very dramatic. The blur keeps the city in the shot but greatly reduces the distraction. Great night shot! Wonderful color. #9274836

You're gonna think I'm crazy, but I like the original post the best. I feel there is enough DOF blur to the background and the dramatic lighting really draws me into the main subject. The added blur on your more recent post seems to have caught the edges of the lion and it just doesn't have the same pop for me. I do think it's awesome that you have showed so many options. Way to work the shot! :~) #9275454

Rita, you've done a marvelous job with your low light imagery. Something I hope to emulate.

Not a lot to add except to add my favorites to the list. I agree that the first image works just fine with the blacked out version my second choice. I think the blacked out version would by my first choice if a gradient blend were used instead of just black. #9276888
