Small island pockets of timber rattlesnakes can be typically found in the more remote wilds of the Appalachian Mountains. The population of these fascinating creatures is a mere fraction of what it once was. In many states they are listed as endangered (or threatened) so finding a nest of new-borns suggests a new beginning...a spark of hope for the future of the species.
