Patriarch Reflection

Uploaded: December 30, 2010

Description

Zion National Park, UT
The first turnout on Canyon Drive is called The Three Patriarchs, named after three mountain peaks seen from its vantage point. In early morning light the peaks are so much brighter than the darker areas below them that a single exposure could not make a good photo; there is too much contrast for a GND filter to balance. So I crawled down to a spot along the Virgin River to get a reflection. Well, there was still a lot of dodging and burning involved to balance out the photo.

f/14, 1/6, 24-105mm at 24mm, ISO 100, tripod

Exif: F Number: 14, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/6 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 100, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 24.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

I always enjoy the stories behind the pictures that so many of you folks take the time to write about. I also love to hear what you had to do to get the picture. It is very difficult at times to get the lighting balanced out and know what you mean as many a picture I have done I have deleted because of the uneven lighting. By moving, you did a beautiful job of not only getting the reflections, but did a fantastic job of bringing out the gorgeous view this place has and your lighting came out pretty wonderful to. Beautiful results from the extra effort you put forth my friend. #9134510

My trusty laptop is fired up this AM and I couldn't pass up the opportunity of visiting your gallery and wishing you and Barb and your wonderful family a healthy and happy New Year, my friend. Your work has been an inspiration to me...not empty words but truly an uplifting of the spirit and feeding of the soul with each visit to your corner of BP....and this glorious, well-thought out and perfectly processed photo is a fine example of just what I mean...Happy New Year, Marty!
