a very dramatic statement Peter. Would be interested in the story behind this statue. And congratulations on the EP.

Would be remiss however, if I didn't point out some areas of concern regarding the photographic aspects of the shot. The most obvious is the tilt of all the trees leaning to the right. With the image straightened, his plight would be even more dramatic.

Also opening in raw and reducing the blown highlights using the recovery tool would help and a slight reduction in highlights would bring out more detail.

You certainly haven't lost your knack for finding story telling images. Well done. #1328059

come on pete we want the story. it is a very interesting statue. I think you have capture it very nicely. tilt or no tilt it looks like he is going up hill with all thoses chains. now I agree the hightlights could be worked on because you have lost come details on him. this is a shot that would be very cool done on a cloudy day to give it more of a story. or b/w and leaving the chains in color. #9046264

Just a question: Are the chains rusted or were than made deliberately in this color. The color does make for a nice contrast against the statue. #9046727

Look at the art guys, look at the freakin' art! Never mind the tilted trees, never mind the blown high lights. Look at the freakin' art!
Ah! Now I feel better. lol So what was it you were asking?
Oh yeh! This piece of student sculpture is on the campus grounds of SIUE our local university. Each year up to a dozen stipends are awarded to students to create major pieces of sculpture and these are placed around the campus. I shot this back in the summer and am not sure whether or not it is still there as the 2010-2011 competition has been judged and the 2009/10 ones might have now been removed. However, I go across to the uni three morning a week to work-out at their fitness center, so tomorrow I will take a look and a grey day is forecast so will try your suggestion Rita.

I forgot to answer your question Mike.
the chain was constructed of steel with no protective coating so oxidation has given that wonderful rust patina.

Here's a 'straightened version' and yes Rita, I liked the struggling uphill version too.
