Mette, Thanks for the comment.

Debbie, this was my first attempt at studio work. I actually bought some flowers for me (I feel so manly). I also bought some sweet bell peppers to photograph as well.

Anyway, I was shooting this yellow orchid against a white background by using a piece of white poster board with a small hole cut in it to stick the stem through. I was experimenting with different lighting, then wanted to find a way to provide back lighting to get the waxy translucent feel for the flower.

What I came up with was a mini flashlight pressed up against the back. Real high tech, huh? It was late afternoon in my kitchen with the lights off, not real dark even.
