Description

From the archives: The Whitefish Point lighthouse is located near Paradise, Michigan, where Whitefish Bay opens into Lake Superior. It was about 16 miles off shore from here that the Edmund Fitzgerald went down, and the bell from the Fitzgerald is on display at an excellent maritime museum on the lighthouse property.

A beautiful crisp capture, Jack. I remember Gordon Lightfoot's wonderful song of the Edmund Fitzgerald - "Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her."...and here it is, Whitefish Point...neat to have the location matched up to the song. A place I'd like to see someday - Well done, Jack! #8862501

GREAT CAPTURE, JACK!!! Whitefish Pt is one of my favorite spots to tour in the UP. My husband's parents had a house not too far from there.

My parents knew a lot of the sailors on the Edmund Fitzgerald. The remembrance is so haunting and poignant. I like Gordon Lightfoot's song that came from it.

You should plan to visit the Polar bears at the Columbus Zoo as early as possible. By about 10:15 the stroller brigade is there in full force. It is easily the most popular exhibit. #8863681
