Description

I saw this young homeless woman near Union Square, San Francisco. I was struck by a few things:
1) She was reading, and looked very engrossed, oblivious to that around her
2) The passersby were completely unmoved by the sign, or her.
In retrospect, next time, I will engage the subject in a conversation to learn more about the background of the situation. Quick snapshot taken while running to an appointment. On re-examination, I should have taken this shot two steps to the right, and angled the camera to the left and used a landscape orientation.

Processing:
-- recovered highlights
-- B/W conversion in LR3
-- dodged her face and right half of her body
-- selectively increased contrast and clarity of the sign
-- darkened highlights and midtones.
-- added selective vignette.

Did not add grain to this one.

I feel that the colors in the original distract people from the main subject, and does not allow the viewer to focus on the young woman.
