Description

Grand Island East Channel Lighthouse. I have read that this 1867 lighthouse, which was extinguished in 1913, is maintained/preserved in this rustic state as it is more photographic in this condition. Some preservation work that I know has been completed is the installation of a cedar post seawall. There are only two ways that I know of to get close enough to this lighthouse to get a decent picture. The first and much more popular choice is the Pictured Rocks Boat Tour out of Munising. The second is to rent a pontoon boat from Seaberg Pontoon Rentals. I have done this twice and highly recommend it with the caveat that Lake Superior can be challenging. If the wind shifts and come from the north it will be cold, even in summer, and the lake can turn nasty rather quickly.
