Foggy Morning Zoom Description: New Harbor, Maine. Selected a group of lobster boats. Set a long exposure (easy to do since it was early in the morning and foggy). My camera was on a tripod. I used my 70-300mm lens (140mm-600mm equiv.) so that I would have plenty of zoom range. Zoomed out (starting at the 600mm end, moving toward the to the 140mm end) during the exposure. I started to zoom a split second before I pushed the shutter button so that I was already zooming when the exposure started. I zoomed through the entire exposure time. I have found that it is important to start the zoom with a central element of the composition in focus. In this case it was the lobster boat "Sleepless Nights". The other boats were grouped around it so that they would provide interest in the areas of the image that blurred. Adjustments to color and contrast in Photoshop. Uploaded on 8/8/2010 1:02:35 PM
