Outstanding, Chris. The detail is amazing. #8799557

Nikki McDonald level-deluxe 8/1/2010 4:03:58 PM

I have to think this stands a good chance of going on, Chris. The focus, especially on the face and eyes, is excellent. The lighting and diagonal placement in the frame of both the monkey and the branch make the composition very pleasing. And the mouse adds so much interest. Great job. #8799902

Kitty R. Rodehorst-Hanna 8/1/2010 5:07:41 PM

You know how monkeys groom each other? Well, this little guy was grooming the mouse too...did you see that? It was AWESOME and so in this incredible image you captured, Chris! WTG! :-) k #8799993

Tamara K. Walker level-deluxe 8/2/2010 7:44:38 PM

It almost made me want a mouse of my own to play with. lol. Superb capture. #8802412

Christopher Budny level-deluxe 8/3/2010 4:11:07 AM

Thanks Tamara... I don't know which I felt for, more--the terrified mouse, or the monkey who just wanted a playmate... ;) #8803027

Ken Smith level-deluxe 8/3/2010 4:55:08 PM

I hope the mouse escaped...I have one of them eyeing each other, like cat/mouse. Your shot is very cool...a great day! #8804395

Christopher Budny level-deluxe 8/4/2010 4:31:08 AM

Thanks, Ken! I think the mouse did escape... at least, being eaten. Poor thing could have died of fright... I read online that the monkeys eat fruits and flowers, and sometimes invertebrates... so the mouse should be safe. #8805163

Susan Jane Allen level-deluxe 8/13/2010 12:08:12 AM

Great capture of this! I do hope the mouse got away--I all but edited it out of mine, But only to the point you couldn't recognize it, as I needed it for composition! #8824058

Christopher Budny level-deluxe 8/13/2010 7:39:41 AM

Thanks, Susan. According to Wikipedia, these monkeys are vegetarians, so I'm sure the mouse avoided being eaten---whether it avoided a heart attack from panic is another matter! #8824872

Nikki McDonald level-deluxe 9/4/2010 8:24:45 PM

I like everything about this capture, Chris, from the detail to the appealing expression in the monkey's eyes to the wonderful diagonal lines of the monkey's back and the branch behind him. It is my favorite of your August entries and I wish you luck with it. Also on my short list are Farmall Tractor (Chris P. just loved your desaturated selective color treatment here), Jefferson II (just beautiful and I wish you well with this new edit) and Parrot Portrait (love the full frame and bold colors). Good luck. #8882380

Every month, with our camera in hand, we go out and find what we hope will be the “winning photo.”
Those of us that don’t get recognized, just continue to search for that special image, until one day the Congratulations come pouring in from some of the best artist and friends anyone could image.
So to the Better Photo winners for the month of September, I congratulate you on a job so well done.
My very best to all of you, Merna Nobile

Such a thrill! This is by far my favorite animal image I've captured in 5 years of photography---and I rarely photograph animals to begin with. And I took this with my least-favorite lens, so I'm happy to perhaps re-evaluate my opinion of that lens!
Thanks to Nikki M. for making my trip to Omaha (and the Doorly Zoo there, where this monkey lives) a possibility! #8977784

Despite the name, these monkeys are not noticeably blue. This curious creature spotted a mouse on the ground from high on his perch.
Like a cat, he made his way down and captured the mouse, scrambling all the way back up. I watched the scene for some time, and
I left assuming the mouse was never eaten. The mouse seemed to play dead, and anytime the monkey set it down and looked away, if the
mouse twitched, the monkey pounced back on it, picked it up and actually started to pet it!
