~ A THING OF THE PAST ~

Uploaded: July 27, 2010

Description

Yes...a thing of the past...
in more ways than one. These
old grain elevators are becoming
a thing of the past as they aren't
used anymore for grain storage.
Newer, bigger, more efficient
elevators dot the Kansas landscape.
This one however, is no longer upon
the Kansas prairie due to vandals
putting a match to it, just for fun.
We had gotten some snow a few
years back and I searched and searched
for this prairie giant, only to discover that it no longer existed.
It makes me very angry, but I feel very lucky to have
gotten the captures of this elevator that I did.

HAVE A TERRIFIC DAY!!!

Thank you all so very much!!!
I really appreciate your kind words!
I was heartsick when I found out the fate of this gorgeous piece of history...wish I knew the owners as I'm sure they are saddened by the destruction of such a character filled structure. I would give them a copy of this image...and the others that I have taken of it.
Again...Thanks So Much!!!

HAVE A SUPER NIGHT!!!

Wow...such a sad thing, and to think of the beauty it conveyed on the Kansas landscape. You certainly got a great shot of this...and judging from your recent photos...you need to borrow my IR camera cause I see all sorts of IR possibilities! :-) #8790203

Such a sad ending to this beautiful, time-weathered sentinel of the KS plains...what a remarkable piece stretch of land KS is...don't think I appreciated it's salt of the earth beauty until you came along with your history-rich commentaries and your wonderful captures of it...I'm forever a fan of this great state! Beautiful work, once again! #8791230

A very striking image, Jeana! I really love it! Well, I assume there are very few places on earth that the vandals have not reached as of yet (Bob Dylan sang so long ago: 'The pump don't work cause the vandals took the handle.') Thanks for sharing this amazing structure. #8792135

What a gem...with the weaving of the boards and the dynamics of the sky. Great image. #8795216
