Painted Hills Of Oregon
Uploaded: July 27, 2010
Located in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. As a result of the many volcanic eruptions over time, 30 to 40 million years ago and the evolution from these eruptions as well as those from the Cascades, the variegated Painted Hills were formed. Volcanic ash turned to clay over time creating the colors we see today

Both photos are amazing, Denny, and they compliment each other perfectly. The top one illustrates the "painted" part so well, and the second one accents the textures. I really like the curving boardwalk in the second one as well as the strong contrast of colors. #8791270Denny E. Barnes July 28, 2010

Thank you Ken and Laura! These photos were taken at noon and I was going to wait until sunset when the colors are at their best but clouds moved in and the color just disappeared. Long wait for nothing. ;>( #8793519Tammy Espino July 29, 2010
