Description

When my husband came in from outside and reported there was a blue-eyed bee on a backyard flowering bush, I figured he was out in the hot TX sun too long....but sure enough, he was right. Never saw the likes of it before and despite research, the best I could come up in the way of an ID is some sort of carpenter bee. If anyone knows....

This is so beautiful - I haven't seen a blue bee!

My carpenter bees make holes in the pergola and we have a waving war together so I don't know what colour they are! #8606031

Another amazing macro, Valarie. I've never seen a blue-eyed bee before either. ALL of the colors in this image work so well together. The bluish green bg is the perfect backdrop on which to paint the gorgeous pinks in the flowers and to bring out the blacks, yellows AND blue of this unique bee. #8606664

FANTASTIC find and shot, Val! I think it would be worth your while to get in touch with your county Ag people for them to identify this strange bee! If they can't they should be able to tell you where to go to get it ID'ed! WHAT an INCREDIBLE find and shot! :-) k #8607721

Tommy E. Burgess May 13, 2010

Stunning macro with outstanding detail, colors, dof and composition Val!! On first look it does look like a carpenter bee, but if you look closer there is no mini tool belt, so thus, it must be some other kind of bee. Ok I'm slap happy now, probably my cue it's time for bed lol. Fantastic capture! #8608196

I know two bee keepers and when I see them I'll ask! How unusual! Beautiful capture of this little fellow amongst the glorious pinks...looks like he's sleeping!
I once went out in the A.M to photograph bees and they were all so still...I ran into my husband and told him they were all DEAD!! That's when I learned how and where they sleep. LOL. Duh!
