Ocean Fury! Description: Photographer's Comment I found this incredible vantage point that allowed me to overlook the crashing surf at nearly eye-level. The inherent danger, of course, was that I was risking a lot in camera equipment to take the shot. A huge wave could swamp me at any time. I kept looking over my shoulder, ready to flee the rock should the big one roll in. During my intervals on the rock I fired off rapid-bursts totalling around 150 shots in 10 minutes as the sun sank beneath the horizon illuminating the crashing waves. Of all those images only one was exactly what I was looking for, as an explosion echoed off the far rocks. I used only a polarizer to cut the coastal haze and water glare and shot every image at 1/4 seconds so the crashing waves had maximum visual impact. Captured on Fuji Velvia 50.
