About Janelle Barry
It all started when I was eight. My uncle gave me a Brownie box camera, my feet hit the ground running, and I never looked back. I graduated to the first publicly available Polaroid Land Camera three years later, a gift from my engineer dad, who was hooked on the whole idea of its magic. Since then, I've been owned by a large assortment of these addictive little light boxes with lenses - including point-and-shoot, 35 mm, ASA, video and underwater cameras - until the present, over half a century later, when I discovered the best of all possible worlds in my Canon 10D digital (and now a Canon D60 as of July 2011!) I am truly in love.
Speaking of love . . . I have been married to the same extraordinary man for 45 years, and have four unique sons, who used to keep me running and now keep me marveling at the remarkable human beings they have grown into. Frosting on the cake is our beautiful, talented, intelligent, and loving daughter-in-law, who has infused some much-needed female presence into our family, PLUS the lights of our lives, our now 8-year-old granddaughter, Fiona, our 5-year-old grandson, Luke, and baby Ronan, who just turned one - my current favorite photo subjects in all the world!
After having enrolled in a handful of traditional photo classes over the years, I have found the seven online courses I have taken at BetterPhoto to be, by far, the most valuable, and surprisingly the most personal, educational resources I have experienced in the field. I'm looking forward to continuing my growth as a photographer with more of these courses in the future.
I have no photographic specialty, no main focus on particular subjects, and I suppose, no personal "style". I am fascinated by this great adventure called life . . . the people, places, animals, plants, objects, scenery and environment, and the emotions that accompany our amazing journey here on earth. (One need only visit my gallery to view the total hodgepodge of my subjects!) If I am able to touch an emotion with one of my images by humor, sadness, the wonder of childhood, a nostalgic moment, or awe from great beauty, I have fulfilled a personal goal. Welcome to my gallery, and thank you for visiting.
