Power Of Light...
Monthly Theme - August 28/09
Lights, Camera, Action!! These Jellyfish are an invertebrate species of sea dwelling animal that are named because of their gooey gelatin-like bodies.
They belong to the Cnidaria phylum family which include other simple bodied marine invertebrates like sea anemones/corals.
I thought it interesting they do not have no head, brain, heart, eyes, or ears... but it does have a simple nervous system called a nerve-net, which is spread throughout. When the tentacles come into contact with prey, the cells of the nerve net respond by shooting stinging cells. Jellyfish do not have sensory organs, but they do possess very simple sensory structures that allow it to respond to stimuli. Lacking a brain/eyes, they can respond to sunlight shining through water... they preceive light, but without eyes, they can not see images..
Jellies are clear/ transparent, but with the creative power of light at the Toronto Zoo's Aquarium, we can enjoy them.
