Vicksburg National Military Park
This is a National Park dedicated to all those who died in the War between the states or the Civil War. It has 16.5 miles of driving trails (roads) and statues honoring the states and individuals who served on each side. The Union on the lower east side and the Confederacy on the higher hill west side. It takes a whole day to enjoy this National Park in Vicksburg which was the turning point in the Civil War. Major General U. Grant could never defeat or conquer Vicksburg but a siege from May 18 to July 4th resulted in surrender due to sickness and starvation of the women, children and soldiers. That effectively divided the Confederacy into west and east and the Union then controlled the entire Mississippi River and cut off the supply routes from Texas.
