Old Tunnel Texas State Park
The Tunnel of the Fredericksburg and Northern Railway was built in 1913 when local residents raised money to build a railroad linking Fredericksburg to San Antonio. This 920 foot tunnel required 5 month to build and opened a faster trade route. Each time the trains entered the tunnel, small rocks, loosened by engine exhaust were removed from the tracks and the windows were kept closed to keep out the coal smoke. Railroad was closed in 1942. It is now a Texas State Park and bat that now live in the tunnel emerge each evening.
