Nautilus Shell Design
I placed this seashell on a black, reflective dog-grooming table next to a window for soft natural light. A very small aperture (f/32) produced as much depth of field as possible (front-to-back sharpness) -- always a factor since, with patterns, all parts of the composition are of equal importance. f/32 @ 2/3 second. ISO 200. Macro lens (105mm). Tripod with mirror lockup (a feature on many DSLR cameras) for maximum camera steadiness. After my usual processing of the color image in Adobe Camera Raw, I converted the photo to B&W in Photoshop CC (Image > Adjustments > Black and White). I also did a little finessing with the B&W filters (mostly red) in order in order to tweak the tonal values -- i.e., deepen the sky and increase the contrast.
