On Pearl Harbor Day
-----
For the third consecutive year, I attended the Pearl Harbor Day Memorial Ceremony aboard the Battleship New Jersey, yesterday, hosted by NJ First District Congressman Robert Andrews.
----
For the last two years, the weather has been inclement but the ceremony was held outdoors anyway. This year heavy rain was expected, so the event was conducted in a tent on the ship's rear deck--though the rain had stopped minutes before its start. Much of the poignancy was lost, I'm sorry to say.

The New Jersey was launched on December 7, 1942, on the anniversary of the catastrophic attack at Pearl Harbor. She had a remarkable war record (earning 19 battle stars) through many wars, but was finally decommissioned in 1991. New Jersey is now a floating museum, moored on the Delaware River in Camden, cross river from Philadelphia.

This is the ship's fore deck.
