Humboldt Penguin Portrait This is a Humboldt Penguin at the Penguin Plunge display at the Calgary Zoo. These penguins are vulnerable due to extreme population size fluctuations at major colonies in Chile and an ongoing rapid decline in numbers. Humboldts are medium-sized, averaging 28 inches long and weighing about nine pounds. You can identify them by the black band of feathers across their chests.
