Mawer Grain Elevator
Wooden grain elevators dominated the Prairie skyline for decades but they have been disappearing rapidly in the last quarter century. These "Prairie Giants" became synonymous with prairie life.
Not only have the elevators disappeared, but the rail lines that served them have also been abandoned and the tracks removed.
In the 1930s there were over 3200 elevators in Saskatchewan. By 1999 there were only 304 remaining and those numbers have dwindled considerably today.
