Windfall in the Fog
This is another old photo that I never posted here.
Taken at Valdez, Alaska. The fog was heavy and the light was poor but the commercial fishing boats were having a windfall. The boat on the right is a "tender" that collects the fish from the active seiners (boat in the middle), pays them by the pound and provides necessary supplies so the seiners can keep fishing. The fish transfer is made with a large vacuum hose that you can see in this scene. The seiner on the left with their seine still in the water has a large tender (barely visible in the fog and behind the others) waiting to collect their haul of pink salmon.
Despite the chaotic jumble of vessels, and gear this shot actually resulted in a little bit of symmetry and the seagull flying over was caught in just the right place to cap off the scene.
