Monarch Madness (Part 1)
This is the first of a series of images I will be posting from a recent trip to the Monarch Grove Sanctuary located in Pacific Grove, CA. Thousands of Monarch butterflies over winter at this sanctuary. We arrived just as a mating frenzy was taking place. This picture shows a male Monarch (on top) attempting to get the female to submit by folding her wings flat, so he can then attach himself to her and fly to a nearby pine or eucalyptus tree to consumate the act.
