Caitlyn's Petunias
A tribute to all whose families are affected by Turner Syndrome (TS). TS is a chromosomal condition that describes girls and women with common features that are caused by complete or partial absence of the "X" chromosome. The syndrome is named after Dr. Henry Turner, who was among the first to describe its features in the 1930's. TS occurs in approximately 1 of every 2,000 female births and in as many as 10% of all miscarriages. My granddaughter, Caitlyn, whose little 23 week old heart stopped beating on my birthday last year was a victim of this not so well known condition. Shortly after her funeral the sky turned a dark blue with fluffy white clouds and remained that way for 10 days while the wild Low Petunias bloomed profusely in my backyard. During the month of June I cease mowing a 140 sq. ft. area at my back fence and let the petunias do their thing for her.
