A Pelican Sunset
1/125s @ f/4.5, ISO 200, Nikkor 12-24mm @ 24mm. A two-image composite consisting of a sunset over the water, and pelicans in flight, plus help from the flood filter to enhance reflection (DD).
Between early October and middle March as many as 2,000 pelicans congregate in Charlotte Harbor, Fla. They breed in February but do not nest in the south, returning to the northern Rockies for the summer and their chick rearing. This image was taken from a large pontoon boat hired for the shoot. These birds had been feeding on the water and decided to fly to the small pine-and cactus-covered island where the birds congregate on a sandbar.
