Push Procesing vs. Over Exposing

What is the difference between "push processing" film and "over exposing"? What are the different results?

Push processing is actually under exposing the film and over developing it. Over exposing is just that - over exposing and developing normally. You push process when you have slow film and you need faster film. It results in more grain and contrast. Underdeveloping is like shooting the film at a slower speed and results in higher contrast and more saturation (in negative film).

Great question, Michelle. I can see why one would wonder if these terms meant the same thing... And thank you Jeff for answering it so clearly.

Of course now that you mention it I do see a typo. The last sentence should read - Overexposing is like shooting film at a slower speed and results in higher contrast and more saturation (in negative film).
