Photography Question

Cheryl Tessens

Which camera should I choose?

Hi!I presently have a Sony Mavica MVC-FD90 camera. It is great in the aspect that it is user friendly and uses floppy disks as memory and takes okay images if you plan on printing them out at no larger than 5" x 7" and the battery life is great. But as time has gone on I have found that I want to do way more than what I can do with my Mavica.I would like a camera that will print good images of 8" x 10" and I would like to have more control.I would like to be able to take terrific looking macros as well as great landscapes and portraits.I would also like to do some night or low light images and infrared photography.I would like to be able to shoot some action shots.Recently a few friends have asked me to shoot weddings so I would like a camera that would give me some fairly nice images. So far I have been looking into the Sony DSC-717 and the Nikon Coolpix 4500.I love the long battery life of the Sony but I also love the diff lense options that are available for the Nikon.Which one is best for what I want?Or should I be looking at another camera instead?I am trying to stay right close to $1,000 on price.Any input that anyone can provide would greatly be appreciated.Thank you! Cheryl

If you want good photos and are going to shoot weddings buy a good used film camera and a couple of good zoom lenses.

Well if you want to stay digital and around $1,000 a nice option would be Canon PowerShot G2 or G3 and a Speedlite 220EX or 420EX. For a little more money a Nikon CoolPix 5000 or 5700 with an external flash should work nicely too.
