Diane, It looks as if the background is picking up the color cast of the yellow gold as it reflects light from your photofloods onto the background. Any time an object with a non-neutral color (other than white or true gray) reflects light, the reflected light will pick up the color of the object, and if that light falls on something else nearby it will shift its color. How much depends on many factors. It's more noticeable here because the background you are using is white. -- John

Are you using auto exposure. The gray look to the white looks like slightly underexposure. Or could be using auto white balance, so the gold from the ring could be throwing it off.
