August 2013 Contest Countdown

	Wire Pass Logjam At several points on the hike through Wire Pass, you're reminded just how much debris runs through the slot canyon in a flood; and clearly how bad it would be for you, if you were caught in the canyon during a flash flood, as part of that torrent of debris! Where the slot canyon narrows, bottlenecks form with debris lodged in place. (Some hikers have survived floods by clinging to tree trunks which sometimes get lodged 20 feet off the canyon floor.) Thanks to Michelle Frick for "hosting" this monthly countdown thread; over the years at BP, this mid-month countdown thread (aka "Chocolates and Cocktails" -- named for certain tools which may help members pass the time expectantly awaiting results!) has been hosted by a number of different folks--I offered to pick it up again from Michelle, after her recent run.

The purpose of thread is to share your one favorite image from your entries last month -- your personal favorite, or your most hopeful, or your proudest photographic achievement that month, etc.; which is, naturally, not always the image that you *think* will win, nor the image the BP Judges will be drawn to ;) It isn't about predicting your Finalists/Winners (although that's a fun trick when it happens here!); it is about sharing your personal best/favorite image here. (Case in point; my Favorite for August didn't even get an EP -- but it is certainly my favorite!)

Some helpful hints for attaching photos into a BP Forum Thread, if you're unfamiliar with the process:

1) Sign into BP completely (name + password.)

2) If you have NOT YET submitted your Contest Entry for today, you can take advantage of the "Photo ID" method (to pull an existing image from your Member Center into your Reply to this thread.) This avoids a duplicate image upload to your Member Center. Go get the Photo ID# from your Member Center first, then come to back this thread, click Respond, enter the text of your reply, then choose "1" from the images-to-attach drop-down (even though you won't actually be uploading a file.) Click Submit; at the next screen populate the "Photo ID" box shown over at the right. Skip the other text fields on that screen, and finalize the submit at the bottom.

3) If you HAVE ALREADY entered the Contest for today, you can't use the Photo ID method *today*. You can either wait until tomorrow to reply here (before making your new Contest entry) or, upload a new copy of your image (from your PC) into this thread. This produces a duplicate image in your Member Center; however, you don't have to make that duplicate visible in your Gallery.
If you're uploading a duplicate, I suggest titling it "For Forum" so it stands out in your Member Center, for easier housecleaning later on. This can also help direct BP viewers to go find the original image in your gallery, when they want to leave a comment. Likewise, if you want to add a comment to a photo seen here, first try to tell if it is a duplicate upload. As a courtesy, try to find the original image in the member's gallery and leave your comment there instead of on the duplicate.
