Can I Use Lenses of Nikon N70 for D80?

I have Nikon's N70 film-based camera with a couple of lenses. I want to by a digital SLR that can go with my lenses. I am planning to buy the Nikon D80. Will my gear fit for D80? Thanks!

Generally, yes. But it depends on the specifics of your gear. Virtually all Nikon autofocus lenses will work with the D80. Only the AF lenses specifically made for the old F3 won't. Older manual-focus lenses can be mounted and used, but the D80 will meter properly only with AI-P series lenses. The D80 cannot meter with AI, AI-S, and E series.

Thank you Jon; your reply is very valuable - I am saving money value by purchasing D80 body only.

I am not familiar with these cameras, but keep in mind that usually, there is a difference in magnification factor between the film and digital cameras. For example, on my Canon XT, my old 28 mm lens for the film camera, will give me an equivalent of 45 mm lens.

A quick note -- You can use the manual focus lenses on the D80, but since the meter won't work, you'll need a little trial and error to get the exposure correct. Might be worth it if you like the lens enough.

All the lenses I used with my N90 work with my D80. The magnification factor is 1.5x. In a sense, no digital camera will really go with your lenses. The focal length is different for all of them. Example: My favorite lens is the 105mm f2 dc. With my D80, it's a 153mm lens, & no longer as easy to use as a portrait lens. To make matter sworse, Nikon doesn't make a true portrait lens for the digital format.
