Correcting Shadows Can anyone tell me if there's an easy way to get rid of a shadow in a photo using Photoshop CS2? I'm just starting to learn the software, so I don't know all the in's and outs. I have a friend that I took a photo of but it's got a shadow over part of her shirt and I wanted to see if there's a way to just get rid or reduce the shadow on her shirt but not alter the rest of the photo. Thanks.

Dodge, lasso outlining and lighten. Clone it out, copy an area and paste over ...

For your specific request, I think "cloning" may be your best option. That is perhaps only one of a dozen ways to do it. If you post the photo, perhaps we can give you the best possible option. Selection, feathering, dodging at shadow levels is more precise and offers more control. Cloning can be great if used properly, but it DOES alter the image, just depends on what the image is; often a good clone job cannot be detected.

Below is the pic I'm refering to. I'd like to reduce the shadow on her shirt. I'm just starting to use Photoshop so I'm a newbie to it, but thought it might be the best way to go and not tell it's been altered. Thanks for all your help.

Do your first try by outlining a little bit bigger than the area with the lasso tool, then go to select in the top tool bar. Under select, click feather and type in at least 5. Then go to curves and click/hold with the cursor on the middle of the line in the graph. Pull that point diagonally up or down, whichever direction makes it lighter.

Many times the "shadows and highlights"-function is very nice tool. You should try it. Generally the radius should be set quite high, for example 750. Then use the other 2 sliders to make the effect you want. I almost forgot: mark the advanced (or something) selection to see all sliders.

Go to Image/Adjustments/Shadow & Highlights and play with the slider bars.
