11 .  problem creating a link in text on your BP site?
At the risk of having this sit stagnant on here due to low interest in the forums I'll pose this question.

I've been attempting to create a hyper link to my own custom sales checkout from within the text of my BP website. The link keeps coming up "broken". Weird messages in return, failure notices etc.

The problem is with the BP site, found after contacting Mallory with customer service and hours of frustration. She tried to fix it by entering the correct "url" and html language for me and she encountered the same problems. She passed it on to the techs, but now it's been a full day without even a polite "we're working on it for you".

My question is how many of you have attempted to add a link someplace within the text of your website (NOT on your links page) for your photography business and had this happen?

I've found too many quirks to my liking using this as a webpage for my business.

Hi Thomas; I have an embedded link in the text of my BP Deluxe Gallery's homepage (see www.chrisbudny.com) as well as in the "caption text" under one of my photo albums. They "went in" just fine when I first set up the text...
I do see the active link to your fineartamerica gallery, however...

  Hi Thomas,
Sorry to hear you've run into a problem. I include live links (via coding that I've input) throughout my own site.

Are you still having a problem? Let me know!

Kerry

P.S. Hi Chris!

Thank you BOTH, Kerry and Chris! I did eventually hear back from the BP customer service and technical depts. The issue was with the way BP has their websites designed. Fortunately it appears to be resolved and the links are active.

This is good information for anyone who is using their BP site for more than simply sharing photos..actually even works for them as well.

When making a hyper link on your BP webpage you cannot use "quotations" as you would elsewhere. When I went back and changed the input html without the quotes as they requested, it worked nicely :)

It's "OK" for now,a temporary fix. We have some serious limitations with these Pro and Deluxe webpages. I've had a local gentleman who is a SEO specialist and web site builder look at this (homepage) for me and he explained how and why it will not work to my expectations and anticipated traffic flow. He see's it as a tool to get customers to take online photography/how-to courses and not much else. Not enough space for keywords or phrases and the host site itself has a very low google search ranking. (which I do not even know how to begin finding that out) He can help with the SEO, but for the investment he can build a much better website with the ability to interact, blog, write articles with related images to accompany accompany these articles. (an plenty more) I see that as my next step, maybee only keeping this as an additional web presence. I see several other professionals with more name recognition than I at this point maintain a phantom BP website and do their primary business/sell videos and other products through their own site.

Thanks again! TS

12 .  A way to CENTER everything on website?
Is there any way to make everything fall in the center on my website? It really bugs me to have everything shifted to the left of my screen. Surely there is a way, I just can't figure it out. Thanks in advance for anyone's help!!

Yours is centered because you never upgraded to the new designs a few years ago...right? Your website looks nice. I guess being a photographer...it is important for my website to be pleasing to the eye. I don't feel it is with everything falling to the left of the screen. Thanks for your response!!

You may want to write to BP - I believe they can revert gallery styles to some of the older ones no longer available to you; at least, last time I asked about a feature on someone's (older) gallery style, that I could not locate in my gallery settings, they told me they'd have to make the setting behind the scenes... Could be the same case for your request.

13 .  Entering contest from Deluxe site?
I have been a member here for over 10 years. Last year I decided to purchase a Deluxe site. I didn't keep my Basic site since I had already paid for the Deluxe one. I don't see an easy way to connect my Deluxe site to contest submissions. What am I missing here.

I don't mean to rant, but I found the site management capabilities of the Deluxe site to be lacking. I don't use my Deluxe very much because I have found Smugmug to be MUCH easier to manage.

7/7/2012 8:43:16 AM

Good question. I never enter except at the time I upload, so it never came up before..I can't find it, either...If you don't have a basic site, do you still have a member center? If so, I know how to do it, if not, you got me puzzled.

Thanks Carolyn, oh my goodness. Old age is a terrible thing, I just figured it out after you pointed me to the Member Center.

I have to go and start uploading.

Thank you.

7/10/2012 7:21:44 AM

Wow, I'm glad you mentioned the old age.
I seem to be having a little problem with that myself. LOL

  15 .  UPDATE PROBLEMS
Last night when updating my photos for the Deluxe and Basic Galleries I received the following error code:

Please do not hit any keys until the photos are done processing.

This isn't the first time this has happened, and what it does, is offsets by one, each photo title and description for the photo you uploaded and every one after. HAS ANYONE OUT THERE HAD THIS PROBLEM???? HELP!!!!!

5/3/2012 7:29:42 AM

Just wanted to let you all know-because I had copied and pasted this error message, BP "fixed" my gallery the very next day. So, as soon as you can, while your problem is happening, copy the error message that pops up and send it to BP Support.

16 .  Uploading self portrait on bio page!
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had a problem up loading a photo to the Bio page. I've tried to start from scratch with the Bio page but that notice still appears on the web page. Why doesn’t the photo that I chose not appear with the others in the photo manager?

You can see what I mean @ www.visionphotographique.com

Thanks! André

  It's working fine now.

Thanks

17 .  about wording of copyright release
Someone has said that I should not say a copyright release, but I should say print release for the CD I offer. Which is the right

You can word the release for whatever it is you don't want them doing. Since you didn't say, I'm guessing you feel okay giving a cd with pictures but don't want them doing more than making their own prints.

I am ok with them using the CD for their own printing. I was told to add the info that the copyright was included so they could use it at what ever lab they choose. I give them a note so they can show it to say Wal Mart or other labs that require hard copy info. On the other hand I am not responable for the quality of any labs work except my lab. Do you think I should change the wording to print release.. my websit is www.dlthomasphotography.com and she said it was under Senior ording info.

You should add a release for printing. Preferably on some letter head if you have it.
If you don't do this as a business and don't have letter head, put some contact information with it because photo labs usually won't reprint photos if they think it's been done by professionals. It have to have anything that says copyrighted directly on it for them to decline reprinting them.

You could add a file on the cd also that says everything is okay to print.

"It have to have anything that says copyrighted directly on it for them to decline reprinting them."

Meant to say it doesn't have to have anything that says copyright on it for them to decline printing it.

  18 .  Images of nudes
I would like to start posting some images from my glamor/nude collection. NOT PORN.
Is this permissible with BP Deluxe Betterpholio?
I would also like to put an age disclaimer on the site. Where is it best placed?

My guess is you'd probably find it to be too fine a line to negotiate---look through the images on BP (contest wins/finalists, other members' galleries) and you'll generally find a near-total absence of nudes, even ones most folks might deem to be artistic. BP's "family-friendly" demographic really doesn't seem to be a match for nudes of any kind, when there are so many other sites that do incorporate artistic nudes, that you could choose from. Nor do the BP sites/galleries have any features to prevent viewing (such as without first clicking "OK" to an age verification.)
Not saying you can't post them here, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if you did post them, and they bothered some other member, who then contacted BP Support, and you could find your images pulled down.

Go to photo.net for that sort of thing. The fashion and nude images are expertly and tastefully done. You will learn from them.

Everyone has his own preferences; I like images of the human body, but find military uniforms on children to be obscene. As CB said, someone will squawk, and you'll have to post somewhere else.

Is that an actual domain? If so I would think the first step must be to contact GoDaddy or whoever you used to get the domain and see whether the name can be changed.

1/8/2012 7:12:19 AM

  Hi Marie,
I believe when the time comes to renew, you can select another name as long as it is available and BP will change it. Check w/Amy at BP to verify but I am pretty sure this is the case. We do buy our domain name usage for the year as part of purchasing our website.
Hope this helps,
Carlton

  20 .  Deluxe slide shows
Help, I am desperate. I would like to show my wife's photos for a memorial service being held for her Wed. evening. I paid for an upgrade to be able to run a slide show but was told that it would take a couple of days for the deluxe website to be ready. I don't have easy access to the original photos. Any suggestions on how I can quickly create a slide show using the photos in her basic gallery.

My condolences to you and your family for your loss. Robyn will be missed; her portrait work is lovely.

I would suggest you contact BP directly, perhaps see if they can give you a phone# to call? -- and ask for expedited help, given the timing urgency. Unfortunately, it may not be enough time, as today's Wednesday. I also seem to recall that even once you upgrade to the deluxe site, you'd need to do a little bit of setup work to group the desired images into an album, from which you could launch the slideshow feature.

12/21/2011 5:30:48 AM

My prayers are with you and your family. I concur with Chris to contact BP - try Amy@BetterPhoto.com and she may be able to help.
Robyn will be missed.
Blessings,
Carlton
