  51 .  survey/2 for 1 basic gallery?
I filled out Jim's survey and got a $50.00 credit.I didn't want to take a class, so just ignored the credit until I got an email from him this morning:
"SECONDLY, I made a mistake yesterday, when I said that you can use your discount code ( happy50offBP2014 ) on a gallery. Since galleries cost only $49, this was causing a $1 credit, driving my bookkeeper nuts, and giving some people were page errors.

So I've decided to instead make it so that you can get or renew a BetterPhoto Gallery with a special 2-for-1 deal.

For the next 7 days, gallery owners get TWO YEARS for the price of one. If you want a gallery, simply go renew before Tuesday, January 14th, at midnight, and we'll add an extra year to your order for free."
This is kind of confusing to me. If it's Buy one get one free and the credit is for $50.00, then shouldn't we get both for free? If one year is $49.00 and my credit is for $50.00 that should cover it and the 2nd year should be free Apparently not as when you go to put in the code it still wants your $49.00 out of your pocket...Instead of confusing folks, why didn't Jim just offer the Buy one get one free deal and leave the whole coupon thing out of the equation? Just sayin'....

1/8/2014 8:53:59 AM

Yesterday's e-mail mentioned galleries, too, so I used that code to renew and the expiration date of my gallery was changed from September 2014 to 2015 but maybe they'll cancel it now. I will not pay for the option they offered today (they have had 2 for 1 offers before and I've used a couple of these in the past) and if my gallery will expire this September, not next, I'll not renew my gallery any more.... the recent developments are not very promising.

Jill, I reread Jim's e-mail. He's basically saying that the $50 coupon can only be applied to classes. But because his original e-mail mentioned galleries, he's saying that he'll give a 2-1 deal. But you have to pay the upfront costs. Again, the coupon is now only valid for the classes.

1/8/2014 7:10:19 PM

The email says I have until the 14th...

1/8/2014 10:29:11 PM

I clicked the renew now button and got a prominent Two Years for the Price of One renewal form.

I filled in my CC information and the emailed code. The order confirmation page stated I'd be getting two years for $49 but only one year was added to my gallery subscription.

1/11/2014 8:32:46 AM

Irene, contact them and let them know. Hopefully they will fix it. The expiration for the offer is the 14th, so I would let them know what date you paid it

1/11/2014 8:42:41 AM

Same here, Irene. I e-mailed them a copy of the confirmation page, and they added the extra year almost immediately.

1/11/2014 8:43:43 AM

Irene, did you add the coupon code?

1/11/2014 8:53:41 AM

Well, I bit the bullet and renewed and also did not get the 2nd year added. I did use the coupon and there was a note saying the coupon was not valid or may have expired...I sent BP an email and nothing has been done yet.

1/11/2014 10:35:02 AM

My gallery now shows the correct expiration date. I had not contacted them but the correction was made.

Jill, I'm sure you will get the additional year also.

1/11/2014 7:52:40 PM

Yes, all set now for another 2 additional years of fun :-)

1/11/2014 8:24:25 PM

I also ordered the 2 for 1 Gallery and got only one year added! I emailed BP about this. I had one year left but decided to purchase for 2 more years and only one year was applied!

1/13/2014 4:08:02 PM

I see they've corrected the error! GOod!

52 .  Entering Contest from Deluxe Website
Is there a way to enter a photo into contests from within your Deluxe website?

You can enter the contest from your Member Center (for images that are already loaded to your Member Center, whether or not they are actively displayed in your gallery/website), or, you can enter the contest directly during the image-upload process.
But there isn't a way to enter the contest, while viewing your gallery/website of images.

  thanks, Christopher

  53 .  Contest rules question
I haven't entered many photos since becoming aware of the rule to only ever enter any photo but one time. Do I misunderstand this rule or does that literally mean we can never enter a particular photo more than once? My problem is I have a huge archive of images, many have been entered and many have not. I have no way of knowing whether a particular image has been entered in the past and my old mind doesn't remember for me. Thanks for any clarification.

1/5/2014 2:21:14 PM

If you upload it as a new image, then the submission system will not protest. You cannot re-enter the image you already entered this month but if you upload a different version (e.g. with effects) then you can.

Sharon, BP doesn't enforce this rule. I don't believe it's posted anywhere, for reference, that you can't resubmit. Jim Miotke did mention it earlier this year but their process still allows resubmits. I've seen many EPs and finalists resubmitted month after month, that continue to win. You can check this month's contest entries; just go to the back pages and you'll see what I mean.

My recommendation; do as Tia suggests. Just enter it again from scratch. With over one million uploads, I doubt the EP-picker will remember. :-)

1/6/2014 3:49:23 AM

Thanks, Tiia & Ken! I've kind of missed entering but can't recall for sure what I've entered.

1/6/2014 6:05:22 AM

Same issue here, Sharon - too many to remember, and I'm not about to wade through 850-plus photos every time I upload something. If I'm unsure, I just look at my entries for the previous month and if the one I'm uploading isn't in there, up it goes.

1/6/2014 6:15:27 AM

  Thanks, Monnie!

No, sorry. Only the interactive online courses qualify for credits toward certification.

Thanks for asking!

Is anyone having problems uploading a photo into the contest? I tried several photos and made sure that they were within the correct amount of pixels and MB.

It is so comforting to know I am not going crazy. Have a Happy New Year!!

1/1/2014 6:54:54 PM

Happy New Year to you as well, Jane!

1/1/2014 7:09:23 PM

I spent 3 hours trying to find out what was wrong with my computer' server-Firefox, because BP told me that it was my servers fault not theirs. I think BP took the day off and someone hit the switch! My server is fine- BP's is dead!

1/1/2014 7:26:10 PM

I didn't think about that, Nancy Marie. I use Firefox too, but I just tried to upload with Internet Explorer, and it didn't work either ...

1/1/2014 7:50:59 PM

Must be a January 1st problem...I have tried with IE and Firefox. Nothing works. WEll, Happy New Year anyway :-)I am sure they will get it fixed when they come back to work...

1/1/2014 8:09:31 PM

It seems to work now (I saw some photos uploaded on 1st).

  56 .  Server Problems Today?
anyone else having problems uploading images today? I have been receiving server error messages since early this morning.

1/1/2014 9:43:07 AM

The most recent image uploaded to the contest is dated 12/31/2013, so it seems we're all having the same problem.

1/1/2014 10:14:49 AM

thanks, Martha. at least I now know it's not just on my end. Happy New Year!

1/1/2014 10:19:31 AM

I haven't been able to upload anything, either. I was wondering if there had been any changes with the uploading process starting this new year.

1/1/2014 11:02:03 AM

It is possible to enter a previously uploaded image (also those that have been in the contest some time ago).

1/1/2014 1:54:16 PM

Good point, Tiia! Let's all enter a previously uploaded favorite since I doubt anyone will be in the office to fix this before tomorrow.

1/1/2014 2:01:16 PM

Might just do that. No luck on my end, either.

1/1/2014 2:53:41 PM

Now the system seems to be working.

Just wanted to thank BP for making this virtual platform available to so many of us to showcase our passion. Through this medium I have been able to learn a lot about photography and also have made friendships along the way.

All the best to Team BP and fellow BPers in the NEW YEAR and also for many more years to come.

Thanks Usman for starting this thread. I credit BP for my love for photography, and continued desire to travel to beautiful locales. If not for BP, I would not be into photography. And BP has remained viable in a fast-paced and ever changing Internet/technology environment, I think for 19 years now. So for all the folks that make BP what it is today…THANKS!! And Happy New Year!

12/31/2013 6:35:28 AM

Happy New Year to BP and all of you who share & support each other with our passion for photography.

58 .  Need to buy a camera (soon).
Until last week I owned a Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 - it has been lost or stolen and I must have a camera. I loved the image quality of my camera - I want something of equal image quality but faster (I like to shoot pets, butterflies, hummingbirds, etc). I also would like to be able to shoot closer in macro. I have tried looking at online reviews but I don't understand the categories. My Sony had a 12x zoom. It was larger than pocket-sized, which was fine with me. Don't need a smaller camera. Would like to stay in $400-$600 range. Any suggestions?

12/29/2013 12:42:42 PM

Look at the Canon point and shoots. They have some nice ones. A friend of mine has a Power Shot SX50HS and he gets marvelous shots with it. It has about a 30-50X zoom, too. It was just on sale for $329. Might be just the thing for you. A tip about shooting closeups with this sort of a camera is DON'T use your zoom, put the camera right up on what you want to shoot. I hope this helps some.

59 .  Beginner DSLR for sports photog.
Please advise as to what a good beginner level camera for sports would be. I have a friend who is interested in getting good pics of her kids at sporting events but doesn't want a pro camera that is as complicated as mine. Have looked at the reviews, but would like to hear from this gang before advising her. Thanks!

  Hi Ernesto,
Thanks for the note, but sorry for the inconvenience. As mentioned before, there's a temporary glitch in the system, and the Understanding Lighting and Exposure website is offline. The tech crew has been notified, so we hope everything is back up and running very soon.

Thanks again, Ernesto ... our apologies.

Happy holidays!
