I am from Anchorage, but live in Alabama now, I spent most of my vacations growing up on the Homer Spit so I'm just a bit jealous of your trip. I hope to make one myself this summer and Homer will be high on my lists of places to revisit. It is where I hope to retire one day.

I want to thank everyone (so many to name) for all the kind words and praise.
Some have asked about the feathers and how they do that as well as the type of equipment I used.
First off the birds don't ruffle their feathers like that. They do fluff a little but not to that degree.
So here is how I did it and the equipment I used. I had to find a bird that was sitting and to make sure there was some wind blowing. Being near the water there was an adequate breeze and all I had to do was position myself in a way where the wind was blowing from behind the bird and to make sure he would look at me.
I got close enough (about 25 ft.)to get a full frame image in my Canon 5D and was using my newly aquired Canon 500mm 4.0L IS lense.
Now all I had to do was wait. Forty-five minutes later I finally got the right image when the eagle looked in my direction and the wind was blowing just right.
The rest is history. Thanks again for all of the kind words everyone has made...Harry
