It's funny reading this description now Jayme, because in thinking about the "low-dynamic-range black and white" "rock" you threw the other day, I was pondering what would be an overly simplified example of that. The first thing that came to mind was the classic yin/yang B&W drawing. While this image was nearly there in terms of the position of the subjects, the multi-dimensional quality you've captured here is wonderful. The black stones at the top and the water plants at the bottom-left balance well together with the vividly colored Koi in their respective positions. The small amount of motion blur gives the viewer the sense of a dance going on between the two.

Just one little trick.. use a circular polarizer. It clears the water from glare :)

Great shot with wonderful effects. An all around excellent image. I particularily like how the comma ahaped orange fish contrast/compliment with the dark water swirls.
