Thank you Michelle, Debra, Kay, Patricia, and Bonnie for the comments. I use Photoshop CS3. The tecnique is called "Smudge Painting" and I think it can be done with any version of Photoshop. I created the background using various brushes I have collected, and then in Painter I burned the edge.
