Beautiful Colleen! I had no idea these butterflies were called Dogface. That was a derogatory title kids used to describe someone who was unsightly, when I was little. Who knew it could be a beautiful butterfly, too!

Beautiful capture Colleen. I almost did a butterfly something like this, not sure if they are the same or not.
Not sure what kind they are, one was real pale yellow and one real pale white. Is the female a whitish color?

Peaches, this is a California Dogface Butterfly, so I don't think it's the same as the one you saw. The males have 2 spots on their back wings (this guy's 2nd spot is very small and hard to see at this size). The "dogface" description comes from a pattern on the other side (top) of their wings. I just learned all this, including the fact that this is our state insect! :D
