Outstanding capture of this fellow, Donald! They do have their strange sort of beauty -- ! Found a couple in my house in Mexico, and they can be pretty startling on your bedroom floor! lol. Ours were not overly aggressive (although they do have one down there, that is) so we took them out into the open desert. Yet another photo-op I missed! Oh well. This is great! Nice work!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to look at this image and offer such wonderful comments.

I'm seriously considering restricting my commenting beginning in October because I think all the wonderful comments that I receive in return give me a false sense of confidence in my images, just to have all taken away when the finalists are announced. For example, I posted 31 images in August and received over 1000 combined positive comments on the images which would lead me to believe that I had posted some realy good images, the the finalists are announced and not one of my images is among them. In my mind, either people were being overly kind in their comments on my mediocre images or the judges missed every good image that I posted. I tend to now lean to the former and must accept the fact that my images were not good enough to apease the judges. Perhaps by limiting comments, I won't get my hopes up so high just to be shot down in the end.

I just read your comment now (about the comments vs. the contest) and I just want to say, although it IS a mystery (!) I don't think they're necessarily related. The same thing has happened to me and if this were a voting thing the results would be different. We all look for what we like: but the judges look for other factors -- I guess.
