I was wandering around looking for spiders webs to photograph when I just about walked into this guy!! Normally i'm not to nervous around spiders and insects but this is the first time I had ever seen a spider like this so the unknown factor kinda creeped me out...there was a huge cocoon like capsule hanging right beside his/her web which was also kinda creepy..I kept thinking if I don't hurry up he might jump out at me like other spiders do!! Needless to say, I did get a shot...I find the black pattern on his back extremely fascinating now that I'm at a safe distance :)

Terrific spider photo. I'll probably never photograph a spider. I'm too afraid of them to get that close. Sam

Hi Michelle...You really don't have to worry about this spider...It is a very good spider and the cocoon like capsule was her dinner (hopefully a grasshopper!). They capture their lunch in their web and encase it in webbing from their bodies. Ken Smith and I have some in our galleries. Have a look at them sometime for a different angle on them! ^.^ Kitty

My exact thoughts first time I ran across one of this spiders, I was ready to jump if it even seem to be considering me as food. Great details and composition, Michelle.

I love this with the dew all over it. Michelle I dramatized a bit about this wonderful creature. This is the female and she won't bite you can handle them and pet them I have for many years. If you squeeze them the will nip you a bit. They have no deadly venom but they do have big fangs. This is the last spider to worry about. Get as close as you want.

They must have migrated the wrong way :) She seems to be doing aright but it is getting quite cold now and the snow is soon on its way!
