Beautiful shot! The little girl is really lovely, and the setting works really well!
I totally agree with Datha T. on this, very old fashion in feel. Looks quite a bit like a pic I have of a Great-Aunt/cousin(don't ask me which), from the turn of the last century, that looks very much like this.

I think this is a wonderful portrait. Love the background and the reclining position. She's a stunning model. I would clone out the extra catchlight in the left eye. Not that noticable until you blow up a pic. I've had to redo enlargements for that reason alone.

I have been a "natural light" photographer for years and it is quite different in many ways than studio lighting. Studio lighting is new to me and I am taking baby steps to get everything right. Thank you so very much for pointing that out for me!

Thanks for lovely CC on my work. I like to show many sides and expressions of my subjects. And she conveyed just the perfect look for this old-fashioned style photograph.

It's funny, my father, when he saw this photograph said "it looks very old fashioned but she seems so non-expressive...I love it when she smiles"...I said yeah, I do too, but have you ever seen an old fashion antique photograph where someone is smiling? And he laughed and said smiling "No, I quess not."
I thought that was funny too.

Funny you should say that about your father. I get that a lot from my mom. A friend and I have decided that it's a generational thing. Their generation wants only smiling portraits. (Or is it that they just can't stand to see their grandchildren looking serious.) Personally, I love the look!

Yep, I think so too. I think a lot of people are "pre-programed" to like and want only smiling photos...and if they don't or can't achieve getting the "perfect" smile in a photograph, that it wasn't good.

I am a huge fan of seeing ALL sides of children's personalities captured! :)
They all many sides to them and I hope to capture them all. Some of the best photos I have seen of kids have been a funny expression or seeing part of their personality exaggerated in a capture. These are the ones that tug at your heart and make you smile!
