    Hi Jim,
What a terrific photo! This makes a great subject for BetterPhoto's "Where in the World" quiz.

Hi Everyone,
Have fun trying to figure out the location of this beautiful scene! Jim and I will be checking in from time to time to see how things are going. Eventually, after the guesses are all in, we will report back here with the correct answer.

Meantime, good luck guessing!

Kerry Drager,

Oh hey,
I think I was here just a few months ago, and it's as amazing and magical as it looks. I'm gonna put my money on Milford Sound, New Zealand. The big peak in the middle would be Mitre Peak. Fantastic place, if you get there try kayaking around instead of taking one of the cruises. I took some pictures there myself but they didn't come out quite this dramatic. I could be wrong though.

Hi All,
My wild guess would be on a fjord in Norway? May be far off, but hey!

Looks almost like one of the many inlet areas around the bc/washington coastline. Great photo

I have to agree with the Milford Sound votes...I just wish the sky had looked like this when I was there! :-)

Its looks a lot like Mitre peak in Fiordland New Zealand to me, although the angle is not the usual picture postcard version!

I'm quite sure it is a spectacular cloudscape!

Its location however is definitely Milford Sound, New Zealand, the central feature being the 1692 m high Mitre Peak.

This site has long been a favourite subject of artists and photographers having been captured by Austrian painter Eugene von Guerard in 1879. His painting now hangs in the New South Wales Art Gallery in Sydney, Australia.

Here is my humble attempt at capturing it using basic equipment. I agree with Judith M. above, all the days I was there were cloudy but for a few minutes before sunset.

Don't know if the sky is real - was real grey when I was there (and weather is notoriously bad)! Location is Mitre Peak, Milford Sound in a very beautiful part of the South Island in New Zealand - well worth a visit. My pics are from the 'fluffy' plane that takes you in - breathtaking scenery.

Hi Everyone,

Wow, so many fine guesses! And the correct answer is... Mitre Peak, Milford Sound, NZ! The sky is real (not Photoshopped in). This image was captured late in the day, just after the sun dropped below the crest.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and for taking part in this fun quiz. And thanks, Jane, for sharing your fine images of this beautiful area.

I enjoyed checking out all of the excellent guesses. If you get a chance to visit this area, I highly recommend it.
