This is a heart-breakingly beautiful image William -- so delicate & fragile. I am often more moved by the intimate details of a scene even more than the whole scene (the branch vs. the tree). You've inspired me to try a similar treatment of a lupine image that this one reminds me of. (I'll attach it at the end.)

I am interested in your choice of cameras. Are you still using the large format film camera? If so, when do you choose to use it rather than the Canon digital SLR? I am considering making the leap to digital body, and wonder when & why one might choose film over digital. I have also inherited a medium format film camera I am intersted in using, but my film scanner is for 35mm only. Are your prints from the large format camera digital or traditional prints?

Many thanks,

Marti de Alva

Yes, I still use large format, but not as much as digital. Much of what I am doing these days, photographing nature details, some things out of focus, some with camera movement, are more suited to the spontanity of 35mm digital. And the quality advantage of 4x5 becomes mute.

I have been making prints from scans of my 4x5 chromes since 1993!

Hope this helps,

William Neill
