No Rain Delay

|
No Rain Delay This die hard tourist in Babcock State Park was actually shooting 3-D photos of the Glade Creek Mill in the rain. Original shot on Kodacolor with a Minolta 7000 and 100-300mm lens then amended in Photoshop.

Thanks, Jimmy, June, Shirley, Suzie and Patricia. The use of the simplifier filter (www.fo2pix.com) really makes the lady standout from the rest of the photograph. The is an incredibly beautiful setting in West Virginia and it can be crowded and you can still get clear photos of the mill. Since it was raining this morning this lady and I had the site to ourselves.

Thank you for the understanding, Murry. I've been kicking around a similar idea for two weeks now and not finding the subject matter for best effect. Still working on it but didnt' want you to feel I was plagiarizing your ideas. I can't tell you how many times I've posted a shot and someone posted to tell me they had the same idea!! Great minds (I'd like to think I have one of them) think alike, eh? I didn't have the idea for a woman in an umbrella though and I think this is definitely a winner!! THe background lighting on your shot is awesome!! I was inspired by a man named Brian Goldie. His buildings from Venice have a simplified appearance similar to yours...but he paints them by "hand' with color. If you can find his work, I think you would see a similarity. He doesn't use an artistic filter though...he uses Photoshop..so I've got some figuring out to do! My idea is to piggyback on his idea but add a human element...just like you just did!

Jimmy, that is funny you say the peoples choice award because I have been bugging them at BP for a couple of months now that they should have a peoples choice award. I think it would be fun for everyone to have one vote each month for their favorite photo. Of course you couldn't vote for one of your own. LOL

I too had suggested a Peoples Award to Jim. It may just be too much work for him and his staff especially now that there are catagories? But it would be fun to see how a PA would compare to the BP selections each month.

LOL Murry, your too funny! Carolyn I love the idea of having two catagorys because each month I have been here one of my favorite photos has not made it to the finists. First the amazing snowboard shot, then of course your beautiful shots of Emilee from last month. I want to be a judge! LOL I have to say that this months choices in the people catagory have been the best I have seen. There could have been several first place winners this month, I don't know how they chose.

What a coincident! Hi, Murry, Margret & Carolyn, A few weeks ago, I've e-mailed to Jim regarding a camera bag things which aworded for me for a first prize win a few months ago, I asked Jim to keep the bag & if porsable to set a prize to aword a Most participated Photographer who haven't make a final & prize winning. So, let's see how we goes.

P.S. In here, Australia, We have a most importent aword for the portrat paintings every year called Archboard, There are two winners, one selected by those professors & the another one is People's choice. The People's choice aword been overwhelmingly welcomed by the society. This year, People's choise aworded to a Chinese painter who migrated to Australia for only 8 months but He spended more then 3 months for this winning portrait-He not even esttled His family here properly.

Dear Carolyn, Firstly, I've got a nice camera bag already. Secondly, I really glad to be a part of this great society & laways whated to do something for it. Thirdly, Do you know how importent the contributions you've made to this society-We talking about the People's choice & participation. Any one else with me?

Thanks, Cheryl. The reason I like this shot is that it's a new spin on a very common shot of this mill. When I go to a site I always take the same photo that everyone else does as a record shot and then I try to think what can I do that will be different. This opporunity just presented itself to me.

Murry, I have just spent a very enjoyable time viewing the images in your gallery and have to say that your work is exceptional and inspirational. As I think some one said before "I wish I had of done it" It's an image that I would strive for... I would never say its the perfect image in all respects but it has to come so close it would be hard not to call it that. Perfect! Adam

Thank you, Michael, Cathy and Adam. I've always liked this photo but to be honest I never imagined that so many others would. I am in the early stages of restoring 50 years worth of slides to CDs and when I saw this one again an applied the simplifier filter I thought I'd post it just for fun. Glad you liked it :0)

I can't talk for long because I have a gazillion critiques to do. But I did want to say thanks for the suggestion about the People's Choice award. I really like the idea of a yearly Shoot Out! of some sort. I will take both ideas into consideration. Again, thanks for the active participation and support. Congratulations again, Murry - this was one of my favorite shots.

WOW - congrats on two things Murry! One for tearing Jim away from his busy schedule (I'm sure he needs a break from time to time) and 2nd on this outstanding image! Glad you didn't set the mill on fire to catch a different shot then everyone else too!!!!

Thanks, Jim and Damian.Jim, I really appreciate you taking time from your busy schedule to consider the People's Choice Award possibilty and thanks for your kudos on my photo. Please let me know if I can be of any help? Damian, I know you were kidding as I do constantly but just the thought of a fire at this beautiful mill makes me shutter. Vandals set fire to one of the gorgeous covered bridges recently in Winterset, Iowa and it was a total loss. And this in a town where John Wayne was born. I won't go quite that far for a unique shot :0)

What a wonderful image Murry, apart from the beautiful setting the colours are just stunning and I love what you have done to the background, it really lets the woman standout, great work.

Murry, It's been a while since I've been able to get onto BP.com to see what folks are doing. This image is really outstanding! You have created a 3-D effect and also created an image that holds the viewer's attention. Keep up the great work!!! God Bless, Greg

Thanks, Gary. The original of this was shot on Kodacolor back in 1996 if I remember correctly. Pat and I really enjoyed our time in WV. At the time I was disappointed that it was rainy when we got to the mill but after seeing the photo I was very pleased :0)

I think the rainy day really adds to the shot, and I love how you finished it in Photoshop. I notice that the mill race wasn't running - I haven't been able to catch it running yet either, despite living so close. With all the rain we've been having I'm sure it's been in service a lot lately, but of course the best time to photograph it is during the fall when you were there.

Yes I think you have to decide between spring water or autumn colors. I've seen shots of this mill in all seasons and I think the best is fall and I like winter next best with all the snow. We hope to get back for another visit some day.

Jeez, Murry! I gotta get in line! Anyway, I've seen more growth and change in your work than...what....than more growth and change in almost anybody else's. Oh, poor sentence construction at its most egregious. You've done really well, Murry and you are a loyal friend. This is a beautiful photo. It gives me almost a sense that the woman is photographing a diorama or museum display, that she's not in the rain at all...does that make sense? Art
